    COMMON NAMES: Canada Anemone, Meadow Anemone, Canadian Anemone, Round-leaf Thimbleweed, Windflower

    BLOOM TIME: May, June

    PLANT PROFILE:

    • This 2 ft. tall plant has hairy leaves on long stalks that cluster around base.
    • Branching stem supports solitary white flowers, 2 in. across with yellow centers.
    • Habitat: low woods & roadsides.
    • Native Americans used a preparation of roots & leaves to treat wounds, sores & nosebleeds.

    INSECT/ANIMAL INTERACTIONS:

    • The foliage can irritate the gastrointestinal tract, so mammalian herbivores usually avoid consumption of this plant.
    • The flowers may attract small bees.
