    PLANT PROFILE:

    • Plants grow 1 to 3 foot tall.
    • Plants can self-pollinate.
    • Native Americans used the pulverized root to treat sharp pain, inflammation, & sores – used the flowers and leaves to treat headaches, fever, hysteria, backaches.
    • Part of the carrot family.
    • Flowers have no smell.
    • Named in honor of German botanist J.B. Ziz.

    INSECT/ANIMAL INTERACTIONS:

    • Caterpillars of the Black Swallowtail and Ozark Swallowtail butterflies feed on the leaves and flowers.
    • The flowers are attractive to many kinds of insects seeking pollen or nectar.
