    SCIENTIFIC NAME: Juncus effusus


    COMMON NAME: Pond Rush, Common Rush, Soft Rush, Lamp Rush, Pacific Rush

    BLOOM TIME: July, Aug, Sep

    PLANT PROFILE:

    • This ornamental rush is sometimes planted in wetland gardens.
    • Central stem terminates in a flower about 1-4 in. across, sometimes branched together; each has a 5mm floret from green to brown
    • Habitat: full sun & wet conditions with mucky, sandy soil.
    • Common in southern Illinois & occasional in northern. Found along ponds, ditches & river banks.
    • Robust bush can even tolerate drought.
